Formerly a Staging Inn, this 18th Century farmhouse has been beautifully updated, without losing any of its essential character. Sleeping 14 people, this a fantastic place to get a group of friends or family together, and there is no finer landscape to do this in than the pictureseque valley of Little Langdale, a true jewel in Lakeland’s crown.
A historic property of real age and interest, snugly comfortable and yet catering for large parties with ease, Birch House offers plenty of space in which to enjoy special times together, and the generous living and dining areas are the perfect social rooms.
The aga and wood-burning stoves set the mood here, along with the rich tones of leather, the wooden floors and furniture, not to mention the traditional beamed ceilings. You will all be able to toast your toes by the feature cast iron wood-burner set in a traditional chimney breast of local slate in the lounge, an ideal place to plan your itineraries, or go over the event of day in the Lakes. A strong period character emanates throughout the old farmhouse, yet the furnishings and amenities are all modernised to a highly agreeable standard.
With such a remarkable property on your hands, it will be hard to believe that the best thing about Birch House is its location. Yet this is so! You find yourselves at the very heart of the Little Langdale valley, surely one of the prettiest places in England. The fell-walking available locally is unrivalled, and the sense of quietude and peace is priceless, and yet you are still within a short drive of larger centres like Ambleside and Coniston, and ideally placed to explore the wider Lake District.
Within a minutes walk, or possibly stagger, is the delightful Three Shires Inn, offering some excellent traditional Cumbrian hospitality. The food is first-class, and the real ales will keep your party in the best of spirits! What better way to end a day spent amidst stunning woodlands, tarns and hills, than to have a few drinks or a nice pub meal just moments away from your own luxurious beds?
