A stone-built picture-book cottage with valley and fell views to die for!
This is a generous and spacious property with wonderfully large farmhouse kitchen and a garden full of secret spots and stunning scenery. Gara Garthe is the very essence of traditional Lakeland. We simply can't imagine a more idyllic cottage for 10 in a more lovely location!
A sympathetic renovation has allowed the rustic character of Gara Garthe to mingle perfectly with Laura Ashley furnishings, Farrow & Ball finishings, and supremely comfortable living spaces, stylish bedrooms, and modern bathroom facilities. The beautiful garden will delight children and adults alike, with the mystique of an old ramshackle barn, the glory of the panoramic views, and plenty of space to play or sit out and soak it all in.
The Mortal Man Inn is close by, with a well-thought-of restaurant, and a very fine selection of ciders and ales, along with possibly one of the most idyllic beer gardens in the country. Sit with your party round a picnic table here on a sunny day, and just revel in the valley views and tranquil enchantment of Troutbeck.
Gara Garthe is happily situated off the main thoroughfare of the Lake District, but its peace comes at no expense in terms of convenience. Bowness and Windermere are nearby, and the walker's mecca of Ambleside equally close. A short run over the spectacular Kirkstone Pass takes you to the extraordinary beauty of Ullswater, and we recommend a pint at the Kirkstone Inn atop the pass.
The valley itself is full of beauty and interest, and we encourage a visit to the 18th Century Jesus Church, the National Trust property of Townend, and the fabulous Holehird Gardens, beautifully presented by the Lakeland Horticultural Society. Walking routes around your Lakeland home-from-home are endless, and you shouldn't miss the circular walk that that encompasses Wansfell and the green hill-country towards Ambleside.
A large family or group of friends will find all that they could hope for at Gara Garthe, and we're sure it won't be long before you return to this peaceful haven!
