Lake views from high up in the hills! When the fells are so close that you feel you’re exploring them just by looking out of your windows, you know you’ve picked a real winner among Lakeland holiday homes. Wood, glass, slate and space are crafted together consummately at Haystacks to produce a thoroughly modern yet charmingly traditional base for four of our Lakelovers in the picturesque vale of Troutbeck.
Sitting high on the slopes of the green and gorgeous Troutbeck valley, the excellently appointed split-level accommodation at Hayloft is elevated to first-floor level, meaning it can really make the most of the surrounding scenery. It's impressive infinity patio balcony lets you soak in the sunshine while enjoying enchanting views over open fields to the lake beyond, and indeed the whole apartment is marked by stunning vistas all round. Internally, superb slate flooring, underfloor air to water-source heating, crucial to the low carbon footprint here, and the use of high-end wooden fittings and fine furnishings throughout assure you of the quality of this South Lakeland apartment.
The chic kitchen is set beneath a high vaulted ceiling and rustic oak beam, and is finished in real granite, while the views and glass doors to the infinity patio mean you will spend much of your time in this room. However, the lounge also has its own balcony, and the benefit of a cosy log-burner to entice you with, while the bespoke bedroom suites will lull you in blissful relaxation and let you pamper in peace with their own sleek bathroom facilities.
An apartment named after Wainwright's favourite fell has to be located in prime walking country, and this is certainly the case here. The Troutbeck Valley has hill-pastures criss-crossed not only by historic dry-stone walls, by also by a fascinating web of footpaths. Troutbeck Tongue provides a fine low-level summit in the valley basin, while the high Garburn Pass snakes stunningly over the hills to remote Kentmere, and Wansfell towers above you waiting to show off some real Lake District grandeur from its peak.
With two wonderful pubs in easy strolling distance, you have your post-walk refreshment well covered. The Mortal Man has a beautiful beer garden enjoying lovely valley views, and a reputation as a purveyor of real cider and live music, and the Queen's Head is a picturesque gastro-pub with a homely atmosphere. Further afield, excellent eateries of all kinds abound in Ambleside and Bowness-On-Windermere. Of course, there is plenty to do in these popular places, but the little valley around Haystacks is also full of interest, with the historic farming house of Townend and the gorgeous gardens of Holehird demanding exploration.
Haystacks is the perfect peaceful Lakeland retreat, and rightly takes its place among the most sought-after of our luxury cottages in Troutbeck.
