Lakelovers’ luxury at the heart of Coniston village! Right in the village centre, this beautifully converted 18th Century farmhouse offers stylish and unique accommodation for a party of six. Home comforts and high hills make this a perfect base for good friends or a small family to enjoy the very best of the Lake District. Rose Cottage is crammed full of character, history and romance!
Tucked delightfully beneath the high Lakeland fells, your holiday home-from-home inhabits a truly enviable location. The facilities and attractions of one of the areas most celebrated villages, Coniston, are just outside your door, and the finest of hill scenery wraps itself around you while the serene beauty of Coniston Water is laid invitingly beside you.
Your party will surely enjoy a day cruising the lake on the famous Gondola steam-launch, and for more energetic times there are exceptional water-sport opportunities, including many types of craft for hire at the lake shore. We also suggest a day pony trekking at Spoon Hall, particularly attractive to children, while the walking possibilities announce themselves very clearly to your eyes; Coniston Old Man, one of the best loved fell walks in the Lakes towers over the little slate village.
Rose Cottage itself is full of wonderful character features, including the traditional low ceilings and lovely stained-glass window by the stairwell. Elegant throughout, your accommodation will ease you in to Lakeland life and make you want to stay permanently rooted in it! A superbly homely kitchen, boasting wonderful dark-wood finishings, provides you with the best in country living. The traditional slate-flagged floors and beamed ceilings really set the atmosphere, and, of course, the warming log-burner brings life and warmth and that quintessential country-cottage feeling!
You'll certainly spend plenty of time poring over the large wall map of the Lakes in the entrance utility-room. Here you can plan your next adventure or work out exactly which valley you just spent the day in if things did not work out as intended! There are so many things to do and see in Coniston and the surrounding area. Busy Ambleside and bustling Bowness are close by, as is the tranquility of Wordsworth's Grasmere.
Rose Cottage Coniston is an affable and engaging companion for your Lake District adventure, and we're sure you'll happily return here time and again!
Accomodation in detail
Entrance: You enter Rose Cottage on the south side, into a utility room replete with settle for boot-changing, coat-hanging area, and downstairs WC. (An outside tap provides for cleaning of bikes and boots.).
Living-room: The living room seats six in comfort, marked by calming colours and warm, sumptuous fabrics. The focus of the room is the welcoming Clearview log-burning stove in its period fireplace setting, and there is a 40 inch television (with DVD).
Dining-room: The east-facing dining room greets the day with the early morning sun and the most cheerful of colour schemes. Adorning the walls are various representations of the Langdale Pikes, one a watercolour by Henry Wilkinson's grand-daughter, Rachael Arnett.
Kitchen: Recent renovations to the cottage have created a 'passe-plat' between the dining room and kitchen, thereby giving an enhanced feeling of spaciousness and ease of communication throughout the ground floor. Whether for a buffet breakfast, morning coffee, preparing lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, the kitchen is a place you enjoy spending time. The woodwork borrows the designs of the Elizabethan court cupboard, artfully concealing the larder and dishwasher. The sizeable breakfast bar is a welcome addition.
Bedrooms: The charming bedrooms retain the original cottage style and floor-plan of the 1790's. Three themed bedrooms each boast luxuriant mattresses to ensure the soundest of sleep. Two king-size and one twin-bedded room (also available as one superking-size bed by arrangement).
House Bathroom and 2nd Bathroom: Both bathrooms enjoy underfloor heating, and showers benefitting from round-the-clock heating of the pressurized water system.
Outside: A mature and charming garden, with plenty of space for sitting out. Parking for two cars.
